Kinesio Taping®

An innovative treatment used by top-tier athletes around the world, Kinesio Taping® is a therapeutic taping technique that provides both support and rehabilitation at the same time. Using a specially designed tape with elastic properties, this technique can increase range of motion, strengthen muscles, and improve blood circulation for healing.

You may have seen Kinesio Taping® being used by athletes at the summer Olympic Games. This is because this technique is a highly effective and innovative choice for athletes, those recovering from injuries, and active individuals in general.

Kinesio Taping® is the first treatment of its kind in providing both support and rehabilitation at the same time. Before Kinesio Taping®, it was not possible to provide both and healing took much longer since these aspects had to be done one at a time.

The Kinesio Taping® technique utilizes Kinesiotape, which is a specially designed tape with elastic properties that microscopically lifts the skin. In doing so, the tape facilitates lymphatic drainage and forms convolutions in the skin that reduce inflammation and relieve pain. It can therefore increase range of motion, strengthen or relax muscles, and increase blood circulation which helps with healing and rehabilitation of injuries.

Kinesiotape is latex free and hypoallergenic, and is usually worn for 3 to 5 days. The tape is also waterproof, so patients are able to continue bathing while undergoing Kinesio Taping® treatment. All of our in-clinic therapists at Derry Village Physiotherapy and Chiropractic Center are trained and certified in the use and application of Kinesio Taping®.
